Deborah A. DeMott is the David F. Cavers Distinguished Professor of Law at Duke Law School, specializing in Agency Law, Business Organizations, Fiduciary Obligations, and Art Law. She served as the sole Reporter for the Restatement (Third) of Agency (2006), a landmark ALI publication. Her academic career spans over four decades, with visiting appointments at the London School of Economics, Central European University, and University of Florida College of Law.

DeMott's research explores the intersection of Corporate Governance, Fiduciary Accountability, and Comparative Legal Frameworks. She has contributed to Research Handbooks on Agency and Intermediaries, Fiduciary Law, and Investor Protection.
Her awards include the Duke University Scholar/Teacher of the Year (1989) and the Fulbright Senior Scholar (1986). She has served as Amicus Curiae in U.S. Supreme Court cases, including Kirschner v. Fitzsimons (2022) and Maples v. Thomas (2011), focusing on apparent authority in appellate procedure.
