Andreas Boecker is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College. He holds a PhD from Kiel University (Germany) and has held academic roles in Germany before joining Canada in 2005.
His research focuses on three core areas: consumer perception of novel agricultural technologies, traceability systems in food supply chains, and communication strategies for emerging technologies like biotechnology. Methodologically, he employs survey research and case studies, often involving undergraduate students in projects such as analyzing media coverage of GMO foods.
As Undergraduate Coordinator, he oversees outreach to prospective students and academic advising. His work bridges theoretical research and practical industry challenges, addressing topics like functional foods, risk communication, and policy impacts on agricultural businesses.
Publications span journals like Journal of Risk Research and Food Control, with a focus on empirical studies of consumer behavior, agricultural innovation, and supply chain dynamics. His research highlights the interplay between technology adoption, policy frameworks, and market responses to food safety concerns.
Notable contributions include analyzing GMO risk perception on social media, evaluating traceability costs for fisheries, and modeling consumer preferences for certified animal-friendly products.
