She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2007) and previously served as the Thomas F. Hash ’69 Endowed Chair in Sustainable Development at Clemson University (2015–2017) and an Associate Professor at Arizona State University (2012–2015). Her research focuses on sustainable engineering of bioproducts, life cycle assessments, and equitable infrastructure systems. Landis has secured over $30 million in collaborative federal grants, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges.
Her educational contributions include establishing STEM mentorship programs at three universities and integrating sustainability into K-12 and undergraduate curricula through partnerships with nonprofits, museums, and local schools. She has pioneered frameworks for inclusive engineering education, including the “Inclusive Practices Menu” for undergraduate classrooms and the Center for Engineering Equity.
Landis’ scientific awards include the Lincoln Center Fellowship for Sustainable Development Ethics and the Tooker Professorship in STEM Education. Her work spans diverse subfields such as plastic waste management, bio-based materials, and climate-resilient infrastructure design. Current research explores equitable electrification strategies, circular economy models, and policy interventions to reduce environmental impacts.
Her grants and collaborations emphasize community engagement, with projects addressing healthcare sustainability, green building technologies, and marginalized community participation in environmental decision-making. Landis actively advocates for diversity in STEM through workshops, speaking engagements, and institutional equity initiatives.
