Amy Phillips is a Lecturer in Environmental Planning at the University of Manchester, specializing in Geographic Information Science (GIS) and urban sustainability. Her work bridges environmental planning and social equity, focusing on equitable urban greening initiatives and spatial analysis.
- Education: Bachelor’s in Geography (Clark University, 2016), joint Master’s in Geography with GIS/Spatial Analysis (KU Leuven & Université libre de Bruxelles), and PhD in Geography (Vrije Universiteit Brussel & Université libre de Bruxelles, 2023).
Her research examines urban greening through the lens of environmental and social sustainability. Key areas include spatial justice, nature-based solutions, and green infrastructure, with a focus on marginalized communities. She employs GIS and Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) to integrate public experiences into spatial analysis.
Amy’s recent publications highlight trends in urban green space equity, public perception modeling, and streetscape greening. Her work addresses how mobility, sociodemographics, and pandemic-induced shifts influence access to green spaces.
Amy is actively involved in the EPP-RG: Environment, Policy, and Place research group, contributing to projects on metropolitan green infrastructure and just transitions in cities. She teaches courses on Environmental Impact Assessment and sustainable decision-making.
