Arpa Aishwarya, trained as an architect, is a Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Turku, Finland. She participates in the Sustainable Transformations Doctoral Pilot Programme (SusTra) and Sustainable Landscape Research Systems, focusing on the intersection of people, design, and sustainability within urban contexts.
Her research centers on Human-Environment Interaction, Public Participatory GIS (PPGIS), Urban Planning, and Architecture, with specific emphasis on equitable implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS). She investigates how green infrastructure like green roofs and wetlands can avoid exacerbating gentrification and inequality by framing cities as Social-Ecological-Technological Systems (SETS), using PPGIS data and participatory co-creation with marginalized communities.
Arpa actively contributes to the Sustainable Landscape Research Group and the MUST initiative, which develop frameworks for context-sensitive urban sustainability transformations through community engagement and spatial analysis.
