Anna Gilchrist is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management and Ecology at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Planning, Property and Environmental Management school. She holds a PhD in Planning and Landscape (University of Manchester, 2005-2010) and a BA in Environmental Management (2002-2005). Her research bridges natural and social sciences, focusing on human-environment interactions, rewilding, biodiversity conservation, and climate change impacts. She has led projects on green infrastructure, upland ecosystems, and healthy ageing in urban environments.
Key affiliations include the Manchester Environmental Research Institute and the EPP-RG: Environment, Policy, and Place research group. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing climate action, life on land, and sustainable cities. She has supervised 1 student and collaborated with institutions globally, including Natural England and the UK Green Building Council.
Anna’s publications explore transformative conservation methods, biodiversity net gain in urban planning, and the health benefits of green spaces for ageing populations.
