Amber Merucci

Amber Merucci is a Sessional Lecturer at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto. She holds a PhD in Education from York University and brings over fourteen years of frontline experience in gender-based violence support and immigrant settlement services. Her work is grounded in anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and decolonial frameworks.

Her research explores how artists navigate war trauma, the impact of imperial wars on Western hegemony, Indigenous epistemologies, and the systemic roots of adolescent loneliness. She emphasizes collaboration with marginalized communities, guided by the principle "nothing about us without us."

Amber has worked closely with Indigenous Elders and organizations advancing the MMIWG National Action Plan. Her practice integrates cultural responsiveness and humility, particularly in supporting survivors of violence and displaced populations.

She is committed to socially just, community-driven research and teaching, fostering compassionate and critical engagement in social work education.
