Suzy Goodleaf is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto's Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. She holds an MEd and specializes in Indigenous wellness and resiliency, particularly addressing multi-generational trauma from colonial oppression and pandemic-related coping strategies. Her work integrates Western psychology with Indigenous knowledge systems learned through 36+ years of collaboration with Kahnawake Nation elders and knowledge keepers.
She maintains multiple professional roles: private practice psychologist in Kahnawake, therapist at Step by Step Family Center, instructor for the Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency program, and consultant for Goodleaf Consulting and Middleton-Moz Consulting. She serves on the Governing and Advisory Councils ensuring Indigenous values guide the University's trauma program development.
Her research focuses on healing modalities rooted in Indigenous traditions, pandemic mental health adaptations, and intergenerational trauma recovery strategies. While no specific grants or awards are noted, her community-engaged work emphasizes culturally specific therapeutic approaches.
