Michelle Dubek is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. Her work focuses on STEAM education, interdisciplinary assessment, and innovative pedagogical practices. She holds a PhD in Science Education from OISE (University of Toronto), an MT in Teaching and Learning from OISE, and a HBSc from the University of Toronto.
Her research explores how educators navigate assessment challenges in integrated STEAM contexts and the role of museums in science education. Key themes include interdisciplinary learning, teacher preparation, and the application of hermeneutic theory to grading practices. Her work has been supported by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), including projects like 'STEAM+: Advancing a Novel Canadian Framework for Teacher Practice' (2023–2024) and 'Full STEAM Ahead: Exploring Innovative Assessment in Integrated Elementary Classrooms' (2019–2022).
Prof. Dubek teaches foundational Science and Environmental Education courses and collaborates with teacher candidates on co-teaching models in STEM education. Her publications address topics such as self-assessment strategies, co-teaching methodologies, and the design of critical issues-based exhibitions.
