Dr. Diana Petrarca is an Associate Professor and founding member of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). She played a pivotal role in developing the university's Bachelor of Education program as its former Program Director and currently serves as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs. Her research focuses on pre-service teacher identity, web-based learning tools (e.g., Field Experience Learning Community), and mindfulness integration in education. She leads an SSHRC-funded documentary project, The (Un)Making of the Teacher, exploring teacher candidate development.
Education Background: Holds an EdD from the University of Calgary, MEd from OISE/University of Toronto, BEd from York University, and a BSc from Western Ontario. Completed certifications in documentary filmmaking (Stanford) and mindfulness (University of Toronto).
Teaching: Teaches courses in educational theory, practicum supervision, and leadership, with a focus on innovative pedagogical tools. Courses include EDUC 4700U (Models of Teaching), CURS 4200U (Primary/Junior Curriculum), and graduate leadership courses.
Awards: 2013 UOIT Teaching Excellence Award, 2011 CATE Dissertation Award, and SSHRC funding. Recognized for contributions to student mentorship and service excellence.
