Ramona Alaggia is a Professor at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and holds the Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Chair in Child and Family. She is affiliated with the Women and Gender Studies Institute. Her research focuses on trauma, resilience, and gender-based violence, particularly child sexual abuse disclosures, intimate partner violence, and fostering resilience in children exposed to violence. She directs the ThRIve laboratory for child and youth trauma, collaborating internationally on initiatives like Scotland’s Barnahus-inspired Bairn’s Hoose House of Healing. Alaggia has secured grants from SSHRC, Public Health Agency of Canada, and others, studying topics like the #MeToo movement’s impact on sexual violence disclosures. She teaches courses on violence, policy, and qualitative research, and has received teaching awards. Her work emphasizes trauma-informed practices and systems transformation, addressing disparities in service responses to vulnerable children. Alaggia’s leadership includes roles on the Canadian Consortium on Child and Youth Trauma and international advisory boards.
