Alenka Šelih is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. A distinguished criminologist and criminal law scholar, she has held significant academic and administrative roles since 1983.
- Education: Graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana (1957); earned her Ph.D. (Dr. jur.) there in 1963 with a thesis on legal and criminological aspects of assaults and battery.
Her research focuses on juvenile delinquency, comparative criminal law, and criminology, with extensive interdisciplinary implications. She has lectured internationally at institutions including Harvard Law School, University of Wisconsin, and universities in Brussels, Munich, and Krakow.
Scientific Awards and Honors:
- Elected to the Criminological Scientific Council (CSC) of the Council of Europe (1994), later serving as Chairperson
- Full member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) (2003)
- Vice-President of SASA (2005-2008)
- Leadership roles in international organizations like Association Internationale de Droit Penal and European Society of Criminology
