Marion Vacheret is a Full Professor in the School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of research groups such as the Centre de recherche en droit public (CRDP) and ADAJ (Accès au droit et à la justice). Her research focuses on penal policies, carceral institutions, and correctional practices in Quebec and Canada, emphasizing qualitative methods like ethnography. She has supervised over 30 master’s and doctoral theses, including studies on prison life, conditional release, and racialized populations' experiences. Vacheret holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from Université de Montréal and teaches courses on penal sociology and carceral systems. She also serves as an affiliated professor at the University of Pau and Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV. Her work bridges academic research with policy analysis, contributing to debates on prison reform and penal system ethics.

Research interests include prison reform, the daily life of incarcerated individuals, correctional staff practices, and legal processes. Vacheret has led or co-led multiple research projects, including a 2020–2028 strategic project on public law and a 2016–2023 initiative on access to justice. She collaborates internationally, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches to penal systems.
Her advising spans topics like tattoo practices in prisons, parole decision-making, and challenges faced by elderly detainees. Vacheret is actively involved in the Regroupement droit, changements et gouvernance and contributes to policy discussions on penal systems and criminal justice reform.
