Nanette Neuwahl

Nanette Neuwahl is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Department of Public Law and the Centre de recherche en droit public (CRDP). She holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Law and specializes in European Union law, with a focus on constitutional law, external relations, migration, internormativity, and access to justice.

Her research examines the division of power between the European Union and member states, the EU’s international status, and interactions between international and constitutional jurisdictions. She has co-edited the European Foreign Affairs Review and supervised graduate theses on topics like environmental displacement, asylum rights, and professional qualification recognition.

Key research projects include:

• 2017–2019: Regroupement Droit, Changements et Globalisations (RDCG), funded by FRQSC.
• 2011–2018: Strategic Research Group on Law, Change, and Governance, also funded by FRQSC.
• 2014–2015: Coherence and Incoherence in Migration Management, funded by SSHRC Canada.
• 2011–2014: Freedom of Movement and Security in Europe and North America, funded by the European Commission.

She has received recognition for her work on EU constitutional law, transatlantic relations, and trade policies with China, with her research informing debates on EU expansion and human rights frameworks.
