Prof. Dr. Tonio Walter holds the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Commercial Criminal Law, and European Criminal Law at the University of Regensburg since April 2006. He has been a judge at the Bavarian Supreme Court (2019–2023) and previously at the Higher Regional Court of Nuremberg (2013–2019). His academic roles include Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law (2011/12–2013) and Chair of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law (2010–2012).
- Research Interests: Comparative criminal law, European criminal law, legal philosophy, and intersections of law and literature. His work critiques penal theory, explores mens rea, and analyzes procedural fairness.
- Publications: Notable monographs include Der Kern des Strafrechts (2006), Kleine Stilkunde für Juristen (4th ed., 2024), and Im Netz (2023). He contributes to debates on femicide, terrorism, and legal ethics.
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Dr. Georg Rössler Foundation Prize (1999) and the Frankreich-Zentrum Freiburg Award (1999) for his dissertation. His habilitation thesis was similarly recognized.
