Roos Klomberg is a Junior Assistant Professor at Utrecht University's Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. She is affiliated with the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology and RENFORCE (Economic and European Criminal Law Regulation and Enforcement). Since April 2022, she has worked at Utrecht University, and since September 2023 she has served as a PhD-lecturer at the Willem Pompe Institute and RENFORCE.
Dr. Klomberg's research focuses on the protection of fundamental rights in criminal matters within the European Union, with particular emphasis on the European Arrest Warrant. Her scholarly work spans European criminal law, criminal procedural law, and international criminal cooperation. She has published extensively on topics including extradition law, fundamental rights protection, witness testimony procedures, and cooperation mechanisms for crown witnesses within the EU.
Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory in examining how EU law frameworks interact with national criminal procedures while safeguarding fundamental rights. She frequently analyzes European Court of Justice decisions and their implications for cross-border criminal cooperation. Her work bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical application in EU criminal justice systems.
As an educator, Klomberg teaches courses in Dutch and European criminal law, and coordinates the second-year course 'Strafprocesrecht' (Criminal Procedural Law). She is also actively involved in academic communities as a member of the board of the GIS (Gezelschap voor International Strafrecht, the Dutch section of the AIDP) and the board of YOUNGIS (the Dutch young section of the GIS and AIDP), where she organizes activities for young scholars.
Her notable activities include organizing the ECLAN PhD Seminar "The 15th Anniversary of the Treaty of Lisbon - Reflections on the Past, Present and Future of EU Criminal Law Under the Treaty of Lisbon" in April 2025, demonstrating her engagement with contemporary developments in EU criminal law.
