Janez Kranjc is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. He has served in multiple leadership roles at the University of Ljubljana, including Dean of the Faculty of Law (1995-2001), Vice Dean (1993-1995, 2001-2003), and chairman of the International Forum since 1994. Additionally, he was re-elected as President of the High Judicial Council of Slovenia (2007) and currently serves as a member of the Council for environmental protection of Slovenia.

His research focuses on Roman law, legal terminology, and legal history. He has contributed extensively to academic publishing, including editing the English and German translations of the Slovenian Constitution (1991) and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Slovenian Law Review since 2004. His work spans comparative legal studies and institutional law reform, particularly through his role as main author of the University of Ljubljana’s new statutes in 1995 and 2000.
Scientific awards include:
- Silver Order of Freedom of Slovenia (2001)
- Chevalier de l'ordre des palmes académiques (2006)
- Zois Prize for scientific excellence (2010)
Kranjc has held visiting professorships at institutions including the University of Poitiers (France), State University in Irkutsk (Russia), and Karl-Franzens University in Graz (Austria). He also contributed to international legal projects, such as the Council of Europe’s “Law Faculty Reviews in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (2003-2005) and co-organized symposiums on environmental law topics like nanotechnology remediation (2010, 2011).
