Barbara Novak is a full professor of Civil and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, where she has been employed since 1999. She currently serves as Vice-Rector of the University of Ljubljana and holds additional memberships in the Council of the National Library of Slovenia, the General Assembly of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), and the Academic Council of Venice International University (VIU).

- Former roles: Head of the Department of Civil Law (2012-2014), Visiting Scholar at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (2003-2004), and Counsellor at the Constitutional Court of Slovenia (1999-2003)
- Leadership in government projects on civil law codification and disability education
Research interests include family law, comparative law, and personality rights, with emphasis on their legal, social, and ethical implications. Her work spans tort law, legal regulations for de facto unions, and guardianship frameworks.

She has served on multiple advisory councils, including the Council for Children and the Expert Council for Family at the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs, and Equal Opportunities.
