Alan O. Sykes is the Warren Christopher Professor of Law and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) at Stanford University, where he has been since 2015 (after a prior tenure from 2005–2012). Previously, he held the Robert A. Kindler Professorship at NYU Law School (2012–2015) and the Frank and Bernice J. Greenberg Professorship at the University of Chicago Law School (until 2005). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics (Yale University, 1987) and a J.D. (Yale Law School, 1982).

His research focuses on applying economic analysis to legal problems, particularly in international trade, investment law, and dispute resolution. His publications span foundational texts on international economic law, trade agreements, and legal economics. Recent work emphasizes the intersection of law and economics in global trade frameworks.
