Juscelino F. Colares is the Schott-van den Eynden Professor of Business Law at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Co-Director of the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center, and Professor in the Department of Political Science. He specializes in trade negotiations, international dispute resolution, and the intersection of geopolitics with legal frameworks.
Research focuses on:
- Restructuring international trade agreements and dispute resolution mechanisms
- Geopolitical influences on trade policy and economic diplomacy
- Legal aspects of U.S. power projection in international relations
- Constitutional dimensions of federalism and separation of powers
- Financial market regulation during crises
His publications examine trade agreement design, WTO litigation strategies, and the legal frameworks governing international economic relations. Notably, his book 'Restructuring Trade Agreements' was nominated for the 2022 Order-of-the-Coif Book Award.
Colares has been appointed to the U.S. Roster of Panelists for USMCA disputes since 2018 and organizes practitioner-oriented Trade Law Fall Updates gathering legal experts, judges, and government officials.
