Akwasi Abrefah is a Lecturer at Stanford University specializing in steelpan instruction, performance, and band direction. Based in the Bay Area, he has extensive experience in global steelpan competitions and community arts development. He holds a B.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford (2015) and has been actively involved in advancing steelpan music through education and performance.

His research interests focus on steelpan performance techniques, cultural preservation of Caribbean steelpan traditions, and the integration of music education in community development. He has directed ensembles like Cardinal Calypso and the Bay Area's only senior citizen steelpan group, emphasizing intergenerational artistic collaboration.
Abrefah has participated in major Panorama competitions worldwide, including with Trinidad’s Silver Stars Steel Orchestra and London’s Ebony Steelband. His work extends to instrument craftsmanship, youth mentorship at the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, and promoting sustainable design principles in artistic projects.
He also plays bass guitar, guitar, and other percussion instruments, with a passionate commitment to community-building through music.
