Richard Vandivier is a Lecturer affiliated with the Stanford Jazz Workshop at Stanford University. He holds a B.A. in Music and Jazz Performance from San José State University and graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Instrumental Performance Arts. With over 30 years of professional experience, he has performed with renowned artists such as David Grisman, John Handy, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, and collaborated with orchestras including the San José Symphony and Opera San José. His career spans international venues like the North Sea Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival, and Carnegie Hall. As a producer, he has released three albums of original jazz music and co-produced recordings with vocalist Nate Pruitt under the project Primary Colors.
His expertise includes jazz guitar performance, ensemble collaboration, and music production. Vandivier’s work bridges classical and contemporary genres, reflected in his orchestral collaborations and solo projects. He continues to contribute to music education through his teaching at Stanford and active involvement in Bay Area artistic communities.
