Aileen Kennedy is a Professor of Practice in Teacher Education and Director of Teacher Education at the University of Strathclyde's School of Education. She previously worked at Strathclyde from 2001–2015 before a 5-year role at the University of Edinburgh, where she developed an innovative teacher education program focused on social justice. Her career includes primary teaching, leadership roles in educational policy, and postgraduate studies at Strathclyde, where she earned a BEd, PGDip, MEd, and PhD.
Her research emphasizes social justice, transformative learning, and the tension between assessment for learning versus standardization. She co-leads the Scotland-wide MQuITE project, creating context-specific frameworks for evaluating teacher education quality. Kennedy advocates for progressive, collaborative approaches to teacher education, aligning with Strathclyde’s socially progressive ethos.
Her work bridges university and community stakeholders, aiming to enhance teacher education policy and pedagogy. She highlights the global conflict between neoliberal standardization and context-sensitive teaching practices, positioning teacher education as a vital societal lever.
