Lisa Garnham is a Lecturer in Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde's Strathclyde School of Social Work and Social Policy within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on health inequalities, particularly in west central Scotland, examining social determinants such as housing, poverty, and socio-economic change. She employs participatory and creative methods to engage communities in action-oriented research. Dr. Garnham has collaborated with government bodies (e.g., UK Policy Modelling for Health) and third-sector organizations to bridge gaps between qualitative research evidence and policy-making.
She holds a PhD from the University of the West of Scotland (2014) and a BSc in Geography from the University of Glasgow (2009). Prior academic roles include over a decade at Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH), where she conducted policy-facing research on social determinants of health.
Her current projects include 'Mapping the impacts of the 'Big Noise' social intervention on health and wellbeing' (2025–2026) and 'Policy Modelling for Health' (2024–2028). She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Social Policy since 2014.
Research interests span housing policy, participatory methodologies, and historical socio-economic factors influencing public health. Key outputs include systems mapping frameworks, evaluations of arts-based interventions, and analyses of neoliberal policy impacts on health inequalities.
