Professor Aileen Kennedy is a Professor of Teacher Education and Joint Director of the Centre for Transformative Change in Schools (CenTCS) at the University of Glasgow. She also serves as Research & Evaluation Lead for the Scottish Government's Centre for Teaching Excellence. With a career spanning academia and primary teaching, her work focuses on teacher professional learning, educational policy, and social justice. Kennedy co-edits Professional Development in Education and actively contributes to initiatives like the International Teacher Education Collective (ITERC).
Her research emphasizes transformative pedagogy and equitable education, advocating for teachers as agents of social change. Notable grants include leading the £430k+ MQuITE project on teacher education quality and collaborating on the EU-funded PROTEUS initiative. Kennedy supervises numerous PhD students and teaches on programs such as the MEduc and PGDE.
Key achievements include shaping Scotland’s teacher education policies and advancing global dialogue on professional learning ecosystems. Her work bridges research, policy, and practice to foster equitable and impactful educational systems.
