Adriana Stibral

Dr. Adriana Stibral is a Lecturer in Humanitarian, Emergency and Disaster Management at Charles Darwin University (CDU), Faculty of Health, within the Health Science discipline. She is actively involved in postgraduate research supervision and has a strong academic and practical background in humanitarian studies. Previously, she held academic roles at Deakin University and the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership in Melbourne (2019–2025), and coordinated CDU’s Bachelor of Humanitarian and Community Studies from 2014 to 2019.

She investigates how academic programs shape the humanitarian sector and how professional identity is formed through education.

Her recent publications form a coherent body of work analyzing the evolution of humanitarian education globally, particularly at the postgraduate level. Through course audits and critical analyses, she examines curricular content, core competencies, and the alignment of academic training with humanitarian practice. Her work highlights the growing academicization of humanitarianism and the need for standardized, high-quality education in the field.

Dr. Stibral has been recognized for her excellence in teaching, receiving two institutional awards:

• CDU Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2017)
• CDU Education Postgraduate Merit Award (2018)

She has secured collaborations with humanitarian organizations such as RedR Australia and has contributed to curriculum development through university-industry partnerships. Her work is supported by research grants and institutional recognition, and she continues to publish on the transformation of humanitarian education. Dr. Stibral is actively shaping the future of humanitarian academia through research, teaching, and sector engagement.
