Professor Adrian Cameron is Associate Director of the Global Centre for Preventive Health and Nutrition (GLOBE) at Deakin University and Director of the RE-FRESH: Next Generation NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Food Retail Environments for Health. He serves as Deputy Associate Head of School (Research) in the School of Health and Social Development and leads the retail module for the INFORMAS network. His work focuses on creating evidence to transform food retail environments to promote healthier diets and reduce diet-related chronic conditions.
His educational background includes a PhD from Monash University (2009), Graduate Diploma in International Health from Monash University (2003), Master of Public Health from the University of Melbourne (1999), and Bachelor of Science (Honors) from the University of Melbourne (1997). He also served as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development with ICDDR,B in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2004-2005).
Professor Cameron's research centers on food environments, obesity prevention, and public health policy. He employs systems thinking approaches to understand how retail food environments influence dietary behaviors and population health outcomes. His work spans local, national, and international contexts, with particular focus on digital food environments, supermarket interventions, and policy evaluation. He leads the International Food Policy Study in Australia and contributes to global food environment monitoring through INFORMAS.
His recent research output shows a strong focus on digital food environments, unhealthy food marketing (particularly to children), cross-national policy comparisons, and evaluation of interventions to improve food retail environments. His work increasingly examines the intersection of digital platforms and food retail, as well as the implementation challenges of healthy food policies across different settings.

As Director of RE-FRESH: Next Generation, Professor Cameron leads a major NHMRC-funded Centre of Research Excellence involving multiple Australian and international partners including Deakin University, Monash University, The George Institute for Global Health, and the University of Auckland. His work involves close collaboration with government agencies, non-government organizations, and industry stakeholders to translate research into policy and practice. He has secured significant funding for projects examining food retail environments, particularly in sporting facilities, supermarkets, and digital platforms.
Professor Cameron is embedded within Deakin University's Institute for Health Transformation and works closely with GLOBE (Global Centre for Preventive Health and Nutrition), which functions as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention. His research team collaborates with the Food for Health Alliance and numerous government agencies to influence food policy at multiple levels. His work with the STICKE platform demonstrates his commitment to systems thinking approaches for complex public health challenges.
