Adam S. Hofri-Winogradow

Adam S. Hofri-Winogradow is an Associate Professor at the Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia. He holds a DPhil (Oxford), MA (Tel Aviv), LLB (Tel Aviv), BMus (Berklee), and is a TEP (Society of Trusts & Estates Practitioners). His research focuses on trusts law, comparative law, legal history, and socio-legal studies, particularly examining how trusts are used to subvert legal systems and evade taxation. He has taught at institutions including the University of Virginia, Georgetown, and Western Ontario, and is affiliated with the Centre for Business Law and the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies.

Education: DPhil in Law (Oxford, 2007), MA in Intellectual History (Tel Aviv), LLB (Tel Aviv), BMus (Berklee), clerkship at the Supreme Court of Israel. Grants include multiple SSHRC grants. He has spoken at the EU Parliament, Danish Parliament, and Scandinavian tax authorities.

Research interests include trust law reform, subversion of legal norms via trusts, cross-jurisdictional legal analysis, and the socio-economic functions of trusts. His work has been cited by the Tax Justice Network and International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, and featured in global media like the Washington Post and El Pais.

Advances include advocating for reforms to counter trust subversion, analyzing trust jurisdiction clauses, and studying the global proliferation of trust law reforms. He co-edits the Oxford Handbook of Comparative Trust Laws and organizes international conferences on trust law.
