Adam Daigneault is the E.L. Giddings Associate Professor of Forest Policy & Economics and Director of the School of Forest Resources at the University of Maine, within the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture. He is also a Faculty Fellow at the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions and affiliated with the School of Economics and the Ecology and Environmental Sciences Program.
His research expertise lies in environmental and natural resource economics, with a focus on climate change, forest policy, land use, and ecosystem services. He develops quantitative models to evaluate the socio-economic impacts of environmental policies on natural resource sectors. His work spans freshwater management, invasive species control, carbon sequestration, and bioenergy sustainability.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward integrated modeling of global and regional forest systems under climate change scenarios, particularly using Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs). His work bridges economics, ecology, and policy, emphasizing cost-effectiveness, trade-offs, and co-benefits in environmental management.
Dr. Daigneault splits his time equally between research and teaching, contributing significantly to Maine’s forest economy research through projects supported by the McIntire-Stennis program. He leads the UMaine Forest Policy and Economics Lab, fostering interdisciplinary research and graduate training.
