Professor Adam Crawford holds the Chair in Policing and Social Justice and serves as Deputy Associate Dean for Research (Impact and Knowledge Exchange) in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of York. He also maintains a 25% part-time role as Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Leeds. His academic journey includes degrees from the University of Warwick, Cambridge, and Leeds, alongside fellowships such as FAcSS (Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences) and Honorary Lifetime Membership of the British Society of Criminology.
His research focuses on policing, urban security, crime prevention, and restorative justice, with a strong emphasis on translating research into policy. Notable roles include co-directing the £10M ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre and leading the N8 Policing Research Partnership. He has secured over £22M in external funding and currently collaborates on the EU Horizon 2020 IcARUS project on urban security.
