Nicole Fonger is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education at Syracuse University, where she bridges research, teaching, and community engagement. As founder of the Antiracist Algebra Coalition and co-founder of the Data Warriors after-school program, her work focuses on: Advancing meaningful algebra learning through mixed modalities Developing culturally responsive mathematics tasks Building research-practice partnerships in urban education Creating visual representations of mathematical concepts Research Interests span three interconnected strands: Representational Fluency - Investigating how students network linguistic, visual, and symbolic resources Learning Trajectories - Designing instructional sequences for quadratic functions and mindfulness-based anxiety reduction Equitable Partnerships - Transforming research-practice relationships through participatory methods Awards include: NCTM's Linking Research and Practice Outstanding Publication Award (2014) Syracuse University's Writing Across the Curriculum Faculty Fellowship (2019-2020) AMTE's Service, Teaching and Research (STaR) Fellowship (2019 Cohort) Academic Contributions involve: Coordinating graduate mentorship opportunities in curriculum design and research Teaching diverse courses from Calculus to Antiracist Mathematics to Undergraduate Research Developing visual sketchnote pedagogy for concept communication Designing social justice math tasks on redlining, population trends, and environmental issues
