Professor Klaus Lomnitzer is a University Professor and Deputy Managing Director at the Institute of Fine Arts, Philipps University of Marburg, where he holds a professorship for Graphics and Painting since 2016. His academic career includes positions as a substitute professor for painting at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main (2012-2016) and as an artistic staff member at the same institution (2007-2012). He is affiliated with Department 09 (German Studies and Arts) at Philipps University.
Lomnitzer's primary research and creative interests focus on painting, experimental painting, graphics, and mixed media. His artistic practice explores spatial concepts, transparency, and the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, often using unconventional materials like PVC foil alongside traditional media. His work demonstrates a consistent exploration of natural elements, spatial perception, and the transformation of everyday environments into artistic expressions.
His recent artistic output shows a progression from large-scale PVC foil installations to more intimate paper works, with recurring themes of forests, molehills, ponds, and atmospheric conditions. The 15 most recent publications reflect his active engagement in the contemporary art scene through exhibitions, monographs, and collaborative projects, particularly with institutions in Germany and international partners.
