Dr. Christian Sellar is a Professor of Public Policy Leadership at the University of Mississippi’s Department of Public Policy Leadership, housed within the College of Liberal Arts. He holds dual Ph.D.s: in geo-history/geo-economy of border regions from Università degli Studi di Trieste (2006) and in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2007). His work bridges geopolitics, economic governance, and spatial policy, with a focus on transnational firms’ impact on state structures and ideological geographies. Dr. Sellar’s research explores the interplay between geopolitics, economic geography, and institutional change, particularly in post-socialist Eastern Europe and border regions. He examines how multinational corporations reshape governance frameworks and how neoliberal policies interact with local contexts. Notable contributions include studies on Italian firms’ investments in Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania, and analyses of European Union enlargement dynamics. His teaching portfolio includes courses on the European Union, geographies of conservatism, economic globalization, and border policies. He has authored/co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles and two books, including Geopolitical Perspectives from the Italian Border (2023). His research lab links to ORCiD and Google Scholar, showcasing extensive engagement with international scholarly networks. Dr. Sellar’s work highlights the tension between global economic forces and local identities, emphasizing the role of spatial imaginaries in policy formation. His recent studies investigate transnational investment networks, semi-peripheral geographies of finance, and the geopolitical legacies of border regions like Trieste.
