Joshua P. Schlegel

Joshua P. Schlegel is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science at Missouri University of Science and Technology. With a Ph.D. from Purdue University (2012), Schlegel focuses on thermal-hydraulics, reactor safety, and computational methods for multiphase flow modeling, while pioneering innovative teaching approaches like team-based and problem-based learning. He has secured $620,000 in research funding, published 58 peer-reviewed papers, and advised nine Ph.D. and seven M.S. graduates.

His research includes developing solid-gel eutectic phase change materials and creating a mathematically rigorous method for benchmarking semi-empirical multiphase flow models using Pareto optimization. Schlegel leads the Powerplex project, aiming to build a second research reactor at Missouri S&T for integrated energy systems studies.
