Dr. Doug Bohl is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Clarkson University and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs within the Coulter School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. He holds a B.S. from the University of Connecticut (1992), M.S. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University (1996, 2002). His research focuses on fluid dynamics, optical diagnostics (e.g., Molecular Tagging Velocimetry), dynamic stall phenomena, plasma-liquid interfaces for water treatment, and bio-inspired engineering solutions like humpback whale flipper-inspired airfoils.
- Key Roles: Academic Leadership, Fluid Dynamics Research, Teaching
- Research Themes: Unsteady aerodynamics, vortex dynamics, hazardous material dispersion, plasma-based contaminant degradation
Dr. Bohl has received prestigious awards including the NSF CAREER Award and multiple teaching recognitions. His work bridges experimental fluid mechanics with environmental applications, such as developing optical tools for flow measurement and plasma reactors for purifying water. He collaborates on projects like Olympic luge sled design optimization and wind turbine performance analysis.
His publications span journals like Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Physics of Fluids, with over 50 peer-reviewed articles. He advises numerous graduate students and actively engages in STEM outreach, including K-12 partnerships.
