Doug Aaron is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he serves as Associate Department Head of Undergraduate Programs and Research. He earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. His research focuses on electrochemical systems for energy storage and environmental applications, particularly redox flow batteries and microbial fuel cells.

Recent publications highlight advancements in polymer electrolyte fuel cells, Li-ion battery technologies, and hydrogen production systems. Key areas include flow field architectures, thermal stability, and novel electrode materials.
Scientific recognition includes the 2020 Prof. Toby Boulet Outstanding Faculty Service Award. He serves as a technical reviewer for journals like the Journal of Power Sources and is a member of the Electrochemical Society and American Society of Engineering Education.
As a senior design project advisor and graduate mentor, Dr. Aaron contributes to student training.
