Kent L Hill is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG) at the UCLA School of Medicine. His research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of Trypanosoma brucei, the protozoan parasite that causes African sleeping sickness. Dr. Hill has maintained a productive research program for over two decades, with continuous NIH funding since 2001. Dr. Hill's research interests center on flagellum structure and function in trypanosomes, with particular emphasis on how the flagellum contributes to parasite motility, environmental sensing, and pathogenesis. His laboratory investigates the molecular composition of the trypanosome flagellum, the signaling pathways that regulate flagellar function, and how these processes contribute to parasite survival and virulence in mammalian hosts. Key areas of investigation include the paraflagellar rod structure, cAMP signaling pathways, social motility behaviors, and host-parasite interactions.
