Professor Jennifer Stow is a Group Leader at the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), specializing in protein trafficking and inflammation. Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms underlying inflammation, particularly in immune cells like macrophages. She leads projects investigating macropinocytosis, Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, cancer cell survival, and cilia dysfunction in kidney diseases. Her team employs advanced microscopy and proteomic approaches to study cellular pathways.
Key achievements include discovering SCIMP's role in TLR signaling and macropinocytosis's role in cancer. She was elected to EMBO (2019), a prestigious recognition of her contributions to cell biology. Her interdisciplinary collaborations span IMB's Centre for Inflammation and Disease Research and global partners.
Students under her mentorship include Hongyu Shen, Sylvia Tan, Vrushali Maste, and Wanyi Wang. She holds an NHMRC Leadership Fellowship and oversees the IMB Microscopy Facility, advancing imaging technologies for biological research.
Research highlights include identifying macropinocytosis as a cancer drug target and elucidating cilia dysfunction in inherited diseases. Her work bridges basic science with translational applications, targeting therapies for chronic inflammation, cancer, and kidney disorders.
