Nisha M. Fahey serves as an Assistant Professor at UMass Chan Medical School with dual appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences within the T.H. Chan School of Medicine. Her interdisciplinary work bridges clinical pediatrics with population health research, focusing on health disparities across diverse populations both domestically and internationally. Her academic credentials include: BA in Biology from Boston University MSc in Clinical Investigation from UMass Chan Medical School DO from Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine Dr. Fahey's research program demonstrates remarkable breadth while maintaining thematic coherence around health equity. She has established two major research streams: global health work in rural India examining maternal-child health and mental health issues, and infectious disease diagnostics research focused on SARS-CoV-2 testing strategies. Her Indian research has investigated Kangaroo Mother Care practices, caste-based discrimination, atrial fibrillation prevalence, and screen time usage among children. Her methodology often combines quantitative epidemiology with community-based participatory approaches to address health disparities in resource-limited settings. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strategic pivot toward digital health solutions during the pandemic while maintaining her global health commitments. Her SARS-CoV-2 research has been particularly impactful, with multiple high-citation publications examining rapid antigen test performance across variants and populations. The Test Us At Home study and related biorepository work demonstrate methodological innovation in digital clinical trials. Her global health publications consistently address structural determinants of health, with particular attention to caste, gender, and rural-urban disparities in India. Dr. Fahey actively contributes to research training through initiatives like the RAHI-SATHI Indo-U.S. Collaboration, which evolved from a trainee-led twinning model into a comprehensive global health partnership. Her work mentoring junior researchers is evident in her numerous first-author publications with trainees and her adaptation of Helping Babies Breathe into virtual curriculum formats. She leads or contributes to multiple research teams including the Test Us Bank biorepository project and the SMART-India atrial fibrillation screening program. These initiatives showcase her ability to develop sustainable research infrastructure that addresses critical public health challenges through innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches.
