Hussam S. Timani is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Christopher Newport University, where he co-directs the Middle East and North Africa Studies Program. He serves as series editor of Lexington Studies in Classical and Modern Islamic Thought and guest editor for special issues in Religions . Education: PhD in Islamic Studies, University of California, Los Angeles BA in Political Science, University of California, Irvine Research Focus: Specializes in modern and classical Islamic thought with emphasis on interfaith studies, scriptural reasoning, and comparative theology. His work explores the intersection of Islamic theology with contemporary issues like immigration, religious pluralism, and liberation movements. Publications: Authored Modern Intellectual Readings of the Kharijites (2008), Takfir in Islamic Thought (2017), and co-edited volumes including Post-Christian Interreligious Liberation Theology (2019). Currently completing a monograph on al-Wala’ wa al-Bara’ in Islamic Thought (Lexington Books, forthcoming).
