Walter Hilbrands

Dr. Walter Hilbrands is a University Lecturer in Old Testament Studies and Head of the Old Testament Department at the Fachhochschule Theologische Hochschule Gießen (FTH Giessen). Since 2016, he has served as Dean of the institution. Previously, he was Dean of Studies (2007–2015), Lecturer at Kirchberg Bible School (1995–1998), and research assistant to Prof. C. Houtman in Kampen, Netherlands (1992–2005). His doctoral work analyzed the Genesis 38 narrative of Judah and Tamar, focusing on reception history from antiquity to the Reformation.

Education: He earned a doctorate from the Protestant Theological University of Kampen (2005) after theology studies in Gießen, Kampen, and Krelingen (1986–1995). Born in Weener, East Frisia (1965), he completed his Abitur at Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium in Leer.
