Dr. Peter McLoughlin is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at Queen's University Belfast, affiliated with the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. His expertise centers on the Northern Ireland conflict and peace process, including Irish-American and EU dimensions, alongside broader political history of Ireland. He holds a Politics degree from Queen’s University Belfast (2005). Research Interests : Dr. McLoughlin’s work examines the role of external actors (EU/US) in conflict resolution, the evolving political landscape of Ireland post-1900, and contemporary challenges like Brexit’s impact. He is currently authoring a book on Irish America’s political influence. His research also explores devolution in the UK and implications of Scottish independence debates. Awards & Affiliations : A former Fulbright Scholar at Boston College, he is a Fellow at three Queen’s research centers: the Mitchell Institute for Peace, Irish Studies, and Ethnic Conflict Studies. Media & Outreach : Regular contributor to The Conversation and World Politics Review , with appearances on BBC, ABC, CBC, and Al Jazeera. Advised documentaries including Channel 4’s The Real Derry and RTÉ’s Ireland’s Greatest .
