Atle L. Wold is a Professor of British Studies at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages, University of Oslo. He serves as a PhD supervisor and is affiliated with the Anglophone Political Cultures Research Group.
- Education: Ph.D. in British History from the University of Edinburgh (2003).
- Previous Employment: Taught general European history at the University of Stavanger before joining UiO in 2005.
His research spans eighteenth-century British history, focusing on Scottish loyalism during the French Revolutionary War, and maritime history, particularly privateering and British naval policies in the North Sea. He also investigates contemporary Scottish and British politics, emphasizing constitutional reform, devolution, and party dynamics.
Professor Wold has contributed to projects like the transformation of international law and Norwegian sovereignty in 1814. His work addresses the 'war on trade' between Britain and France, the role of neutral nations in privateering, and the Nordic Model's political context.
- Scientific Awards: Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
He supervises PhD students and leads the PhD program at ILOS. His affiliations include membership in the Navy Records Society and the Norwegian Historical Association (HIFO).
