Bettina Petersohn is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Sciences, Swansea University, specializing in Politics, Philosophy, and International Relations. Her work focuses on comparative federalism, intergovernmental coordination, and the inclusion of internal nations in diverse societies. She has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Edinburgh (2014–2015) and the University of Konstanz (2012–2013), where she conducted research on group conflicts in multinational, multi-level states and decentralization dynamics.
Her research interests span comparative federalism, local government coordination, accountability in multi-level systems, and accommodation of internal nations. She has published in leading journals like Publius, Regional & Federal Studies, and Political Quarterly, often analyzing territorial reforms, constitutional policy, and negotiation mechanisms in multinational states. Her 2017 guest-edited special issue in Publius on territorial politics highlights her contribution to institutional change debates.
Bettina supervises PhD students in projects related to political loyalty in Britain, polling inaccuracy, and public service motivation in The Bahamas. She has been involved in significant grants, including the Dynamics of group conflicts in multinational, multi-level states project (€150,000) at the University of Konstanz. Her teaching modules, such as PO-209: The State and Political Institutions and PO-M85: Democracy and Constitutional Design, emphasize comparative political analysis and constitutional design challenges.
