Kasper Degn Gejl is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark, affiliated with the Research Unit of Muscle Physiology and Biomechanics. He holds a PhD and MSc and maintains an active research profile with 51 documented research outputs spanning sports science, exercise physiology, and biomechanics. His primary research interests include: Skeletal Muscle Biochemistry and Physiology Mitochondrial Function in Elite Athletes Calcium Regulation in Muscle Cells Lipid Metabolism During Exercise Strength and Endurance Training Adaptations Metabolic Health in Overweight Populations Dr. Gejl's recent research has focused on understanding cellular mechanisms underlying athletic performance, particularly examining how training affects muscle physiology in elite rowers, cyclists, and other endurance athletes. His work also explores the relationship between physical fitness, nutrition, and metabolic health in various populations, including young women with overweight. His publications frequently appear in high-impact journals such as Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, American Journal of Physiology, and British Journal of Nutrition. He has received significant media attention for his expertise, with 29 documented press contributions on topics ranging from carbohydrate fueling for endurance athletes to optimal running techniques for health improvement and even skateboarding benefits for children. As an educator, Dr. Gejl has taught courses in exercise physiology, training physiology, and water activities at both bachelor's and master's levels at the University of Southern Denmark since 2007. He has supervised bachelor's theses since 2015 and currently teaches in the "Training Physiology, Health and Performance" specialization.
