معرفی
Tom Gwinn is a Lecturer in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Health Sciences. He is affiliated with the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and is a core member of the Exercise Physiology and Nutrition research team. His work focuses on interdisciplinary areas including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease prevention, and healthy ageing through exercise interventions. Key research themes involve genetic influences on metabolic responses to exercise, neuromuscular adaptations, and rehabilitation strategies for spinal cord injury patients.
Tom's research spans over two decades, with notable contributions to understanding calcium homeostasis in aging muscles, gene-exercise interactions affecting fat metabolism, and biomechanical analysis of youth athletic development. His recent studies investigate longitudinal changes in movement biomechanics during puberty and the role of maturation in sports performance. He has contributed to randomized controlled trials evaluating post-fracture rehabilitation strategies and pioneering work on electrical stimulation therapies for spinal cord injury patients.
His publications span high-impact journals like Journal of Applied Physiology and European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, demonstrating expertise in both basic science and clinical applications. Tom collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across physiology, genetics, and clinical rehabilitation, reflecting his commitment to translational research.
Tom has secured research funding including a 2016 grant investigating diet-exercise interactions and a 1997 NHMRC grant studying post-hip fracture rehabilitation. His teaching contributions include innovative interdisciplinary assessments highlighted in higher education conferences.
