Julia Arciero is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), School of Science. Her research focuses on mathematical biology, particularly developing and analyzing differential equation models of physiological phenomena including blood flow regulation, immune response, inflammation, and cell migration through interdisciplinary collaborations with experimentalists and clinicians. Dr. Arciero earned her educational degrees from prestigious institutions: Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, University of Arizona M.S. in Applied Mathematics, University of Arizona B.S. in Mathematics, University of Michigan Her research spans multiple biomedical domains with particular emphasis on vascular physiology and ocular hemodynamics. She develops theoretical models to investigate peripheral arterial disease, glaucoma, transplant rejection, and inflammatory responses. Her work demonstrates how mathematical approaches can provide crucial insights into complex biological systems and optimize experimental design in collaboration with medical researchers. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on ocular hemodynamics and mathematical modeling of retinal physiology in relation to glaucoma.
