Mary McGahon is a Lecturer (Education) in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences at Queen's University Belfast. She holds roles such as CBMSE Physiology Lead, Demonstrator Recruitment Liaison, and coordinates the MDBS Pathway Opportunity Programme (POP). Her work focuses on active and inclusive pedagogy, integrating UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into physiology education.
Research interests include drama-inspired medical education, ultrasound as a teaching tool, and exercise physiology protocols. She leads projects such as co-creating EDI-focused practicals with undergraduate students and validating new exercise testing methods.
Publications span education innovations and biomedical research, including studies on diabetic retinopathy mechanisms. She has received awards like the Queen’s Merit Award and Fellow of The Physiological Society. Over 130 professional activities include conference participation, curriculum development, and committee roles.
