Αθανάσιος Τσίπης is a Professor of Inorganic and Computational Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Ioannina since 2018. He previously held positions as Associate Professor (2008–2014), Assistant Professor (2003–2008), and Lecturer (2003–2008). He earned his BSc (1990) and PhD (1996, 'Άριστα') from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His postdoctoral research included stays at the University of Mons (Belgium), University of Bristol (UK), and University of Zaragoza (Spain). Research interests focus on computational inorganic chemistry, including DFT studies of reaction mechanisms, catalyst design, hydrogen storage materials, π-acceptor interactions, high-energy density materials, and sensors. He has collaborated with institutions worldwide, including Northwestern University (USA), University of Sussex (UK), and Nikolaev Institute (Russia). His teaching includes undergraduate courses on Inorganic Chemistry and graduate courses on functional materials and structure-property relationships. He serves as a reviewer for journals like Nature Communications , ACS , and Royal Society of Chemistry series. His work spans over 200 publications, with recent contributions in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and RSC Advances . Research highlights include luminescent sensors, anti-cancer complexes, and computationally guided material design. Active in EU-funded programs and national grants (PENED), he also authored textbooks for high school and university-level chemistry education.
