Dr. Robert H. Paul is a Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH), where he also serves as Director. He holds an adjunct faculty position at Bryant University. His academic background includes a PhD in Biological Psychology/Neuropsychology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (1995–1997), an MS in the same field (1993–1995), and a BA in Psychology from California State University (pre-1993). Dr. Paul’s research focuses on subcortical brain systems’ contributions to cognitive and affective behavior, particularly in conditions like subcortical ischemic vascular disease (SIVD) and HIV neuropathology. He employs neuropsychological testing and structural neuroimaging techniques, collaborating with Washington University’s School of Medicine. His work bridges clinical neuroscience, neuroimaging, and translational research. Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, including global health collaborations, PTSD treatment protocols, neuroanatomical studies linking corpus callosum structure to PTSD severity, opioid-related risk perception analyses, and machine learning applications in pediatric HIV neurocognitive assessment. His research emphasizes behavioral and neuronal mechanisms in vulnerable populations. Dr. Paul has held roles at Brown Medical School (Assistant Professor, 2001–2006) and contributed to multiple collaborative projects. His work integrates clinical practice, neuroimaging, and public health initiatives.
